Key Highlights
- Tamil Nadu ranks 2nd in Poultry, 4th in Sheep, 7th in Goats, 13th in Cattle, and 14th in Buffalo population in the country (20th Livestock Census, 2019).
- Veterinary institutions expanded from ~120 in the 1950s to 3,869 in 2023-24.
- 7,760 Specialized Veterinary Health Care camps conducted annually across 388 blocks.
- 32 Animal Ambulances operational across the state under the 1962 helpline.
- Over 25.14 lakh animals covered under the Nationwide Artificial Insemination Programme (NAIP).
- 350+ Jallikattu/Manjuvirattu events notified and conducted annually since 2017.
