As per the minimum standard protocol stipulated by Government of India, these semen stations are producing disease free, high genetic merit frozen semen straws and distributed for artificial insemination.

Exotic Cattle Breeding Farm — Eachenkottai

Production Capacity: 35 Lakh straws

• Crossbreed: Jersey Crossbreed
• Indigenous: Sahiwal and Umbalacherry
• Buffalo: Murrah

District Livestock Farm — Hosur

Production Capacity: 15 Lakh straws

Breeds Maintained

• Crossbred: Jersey Crossbred
• Indigenous: Red Sindhi and Sahiwal
• Native Breed: Kangeyam and Bargur

District Livestock Farm — Ooty (Udhagamandalam)

Production Capacity: 20 Lakh straws

• Crossbred: Jersey Crossbred and Holstein Friesian Crossbred

Sex-Sorted Semen Production at District Livestock Farm, Udhagamandalam

Advantages of Sex-Sorted Semen

• Only female calves can be produced (with more than 85% accuracy).
• Increased availability of replacement heifers and increasing herd size.
• Increase in milk production.
